VIDEO: Unexpected heavy snow hits Dorset

Snow over the Wessex Way Snow over the Wessex Way

An unexpected band of snow fell falling across Dorset this lunchtime - but the excitement was quickly over.

A band of snow had been been moving west all morning, despite the forecast predicting only rain for the county.

The snow vanished as quickly as it arrived, although some forecasts suggest it will be back in the morning.

Temperatures will drop below freezing towards midnight, but rise again through the day.

When you say "unlikely to stick....."

Definately 'sticking' in Verwood. White lawns, cars and trees. Road's seem to be holding out for now.

It appears the precipitation was very slightly heavier than forecast, this was enough to drag down colder air from higher in the atmosphere. Bournemouth airport was about +5C at 11am by 2pm this had fallen to 0C.

BBC Radio Solent forecast snow on their 5.30am bulletin this morning. I guess the Echo reporters don't listen to the BBC local radio?

Not everyone lives where it's been snowing. I live in Studland and there's been none at all.
