Floral tributes have been left at the scene of a crash which claimed the life of a young man from Poole.

The 19-year-old, named locally and on social networking sites as Mikey Maguire, died on Friday night after the car in which he was a passenger came off the road and struck a tree.

Hundreds have paid tribute to the teenager on Facebook and Twitter.

One friend wrote: "Always the best people who are taken from the world", while another said Mikey will be "forever in our hearts".

The fatal accident took place around 10pm in rural Huntick Road, close to the isolated entrance to Huntick Farm Caravan Park, Lytchett Matravers.

A silver Renault Clio driven by a 20-year-old man also from Poole, left the road on a bend and ploughed across the bank causing deep furrows in the mud.

The vehicle struck a tree causing the bark to splinter and tracks through the mud show it to have carried on, coming to rest lower down.

Firefighters from Poole were involved in releasing the victims from the car but unfortunately the teenage passenger died at the scene.

A police spokesman has appealed for witnesses to the accident which took place just over the boundary of Lytchett Matravers.

Huntick Road is a busy cut through between Lytchett Matravers and Poole and lower down has a series of bends to negotiate.

The driver of the car was released on police bail on Saturday pending further enquiries.

“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information relating to the collision or to the Renault Clio are asked to contact Dorset Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111,” said the spokesman.
