A SECURITY guard needed hospital treatment after a road rage incident ended in a racial attack outside a Tesco Express store.

Father-of-two Johnson Babayomi was punched in the jaw after stopping outside the Verwood shop at around 8.10 pm last Saturday as he drove home from work.

He said: “There had been a minor incident a few minutes earlier on Ringwood Road when I went to pull out to overtake another car and saw a vehicle coming up from behind at speed.

“I pulled back in and thought nothing more of it but the driver who overtook me then drove so slowly in front of me I had to brake.

“I was getting out of my car when I heard footsteps behind me and abusive language.

“I tried to calm the man down before he went inside the store.

“But when he came out I was in my car searching for my wallet when he started shouted racial insults before suddenly throwing a punch, striking me on the left side of my face. Everything happened so fast I didn’t get his registration number.”

Johnson, 31, who comes from Nigeria, reported the incident to the duty manager and the police were called. An ambulance took Johnson to Poole Hospital where he was examined and X-rayed before being discharged the next morning.

He said: “Apart from jaw ache and neck pain I had a nose bleed. Nothing was broken but I am still bruised.

“I wasn’t able to work for a couple of days and I keep looking over my shoulder; it’s made me very anxious. I just want the man responsible caught.”

His wife Charlene, 30, said: “It’s totally changed Johnson and affected our whole family. Our daughter Keisha has noticed something is wrong with her daddy and is very tearful. There should be cameras outside the store to act as a deterrent.”

Appealing for witnesses, PC David Morgan said the suspect had got into a blue car before driving off in the direction of Verwood fire station.

He added: “He is white, with a stocky build and a shaven head.

“He is aged between 20 and 30 and was wearing a black North Face branded jacket, grey tracksuit bottoms and bright blue trainers.”

No arrests have been made.

Witnesses any anyone with information should phone 101, quoting incident number 26:506, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
