Fares on Dorset's Yellow Buses set for increase

YELLOW Buses fares are to rise from tomorrow, although users of the company’s smart card can avoid the increase.

A short-hop single will rise from £1.40 to £1.50, while a short-hop return rises from £2 to £2.20.

A medium hop single will increase from £1.80 to £1.90 and a medium-hop day return from £2.70 to £2.90.

But fares bought through the company’s GLO smartcard are not increasing and in the case of adults they are cheaper than cash fares.

The price of GLO passes, available from drivers or online, stay the same.

Jenni Wilkinson, Yellow Buses’ head of marketing, said: “Rising costs mean that our fares, unfortunately, have also had to increase.

“However, the good news for our customers is that by using their handy and very convenient GLO smartcard they can beat the increases and with next day delivery on our online top ups it couldn’t be simpler.”

Oh Great! Just what I Need, yet another fare increase for a very unreliable service; time to find an alternative.

And NO, I won't be using a Glo Card, it ties me to one (unreliable) company, also the terms and conditions are too heavily biased in favour of Yellow Bus.

If Government got its act together and rolled out this new cheap 90P fuel there wouldn’t be any need to increase fares.

British scientists 'invent artificial petrol' that could cost just 90p per GALLON (and there's no carbon) See link to proof data: @ http://tinyurl.com/b
dgdvh6

Hydrogen-based fuel produces no greenhouse gases so could help nations slash their carbon footprint It is allegedly due to be available at the pumps in three to five years, but as we all know’’ UK Gov wants money from ‘Fuel Taxes’ so fat chance you might have of ever getting it. Meantime many businesses are forced to close down. As they are uneconomical to run.

The slowness of British Government to react in a positive manner and insure this new low cost fuel was readily available has a serious knock on effect to the entire Road Haulage and Transpiration System which in turn pushes up the cost of almost everything we buy. Britain needs to be more competitive so allowing this 90p fuel to be available would encourage more and more businesses to open up, but I guess Cameron has to do what he’s told from Brussels, perhaps another good reason to vote UKIP?

Last time I worked in the Bus Industry, there was a legal requirement to give at least 28 days (public) notice of any fare increase, I have see no such such notice (just like the last time!).

I hardly ever use yellow buses these days for reasons that the service no 2 runs as and when it feels like it from boscombe to the railway station., and that with the expensive fare for a few mins journey. Also you cannot get a bus at asda/Railway station and return on a no 1 bus to landsdown and walk to the station on a return ticket! The drivers will not allow it, even though the journey is shorter. Now that the pension age is increasing and over 60 free travel is going for new pensioners I expect the revenue/takings will drop.! Go abroad you go for miles on a 2 Euro fare.!!

You are indeed going back a long time there, the Traffic Commissioner used to hold a public inquiry (Town Hall here) before agreeing an Operator's fare rise - motor buses only, the old trolleybuses were outside this rule
All changed way back in the '80s, now the Operator can do as they want - apart from charge anti-competitive/pre
datory low fares!
But be fair here, even with some rebate for buses, a significant amount of your bus fare is still going indirectly as (fuel) tax to the Government.

Very ccasionally I catch buses but only if my car is out of action! It beats paying for car parking and you don't have to time your trip like you do with paid car parks. However, if I go to Poole, I drive as the M1 bus from Castlepoint can take an hour! I could drive to 30 miles to Southampton in 45minutes, or even Portsmouth in an hour. As I would have to bring my little one on a buggy, it's easier to drive myself. That said, a day ticket on the yellows is around £3.80 I think, which is pretty good value of you're going out for the day. How far could you drive and park for £3.80?

Perhaps the fare rises are to cover the increased costs of maternity pay and temporary recruitment/training for maternity cover after encouraging more women to become bus drivers to offer a "better service" than miserable men can offer.

As you hardly ever use the 2 how can you judge the frequency, as I often avail my self of the service and find the punctuallity reasonable.
It is not the only vehicle on the roads having to contend with traffic from Kinson to Iford then through Pokesdown to Boscombe.
A most enjoyable journey around 3.30 to 4.30 if you are passenger, it must be hell for the driver.
