UPDATED: Power cut in Bournemouth town centre
3:30pm Friday 25th January 2013 in News
A HUGE power cut plunged businesses into darkness this lunchtime in Bournemouth town centre.
The supply was cut to 1,500 businesses and households around lunchtime following damage to a high voltage cable in Exeter Road.
The businesses affected were Debenhams, Schuh, Tesco Metro, Burger King, The Slug and Lettuce and Next.
All power was restored just before 2.10pm.
The issue is believed to have been caused by Southern Gas who cut through a cable near the Moon in the Square pub.
Hannah Gleave, spokesperson for Southern Electric, said: "We received reports of some third party damage to one of our high voltage cables at around 12pm.
"Our engineer has identified where the damage took place, which was in Exeter Road.
"We would like to apologise to all customers who have been affected.
"We would like to thank customers for their patience while we carried out repairs."
She said the areas still affected were Exeter Road, Exeter Park Road and Cranborne Road.

Pity SSE STILL haven't been back to fix the mess they've left in Old Christchurch Road from last week! Still a huge hole with capped off cables poking out, causing chaos with delivery lorries each morning!
The hole got significantly bigger today...

Was this a vision of what Bournemouth town centre will look like in a few years once our council has destroyed it with their policies.

Southern gas employees breaching Health and Safety.
Clearly they did not use a Cable Avoidance Tool (cat detector) prior to excavation. They would have known where the cable was if they had used one and not cut the cable.
Laziness costs lives.

Add to this, the wheels are falling off the nighttime economy which is only one of a hand few of facets that makes the town different. Generally, the town is very dirty; stand by to watch the town change over the coming years from seaside resort to coastal ghetto.
