Bournemouth council to expand adoption services
12:44pm Friday 25th January 2013 in News
BOURNEMOUTH council is to expand its highly rated adoption and fostering services to help it recruit more foster carers.
The council’s announcement that it will take on an additional two social workers comes as the government warned all local authorities they could lose control of adoption services if they take too long to find placements for children.
They said that councils would be required to outsource adoption services if they are deemed to be failing looked-after children.
However, Bournemouth’s adoption team picked up an award for Adoption Service of the Year last year and believes that expanding will enable them to provide an even more comprehensive service.
As well as recruiting more foster carers, the council will invest in a dedicated social care team responsible for looking after children and young people who are privately fostered.
Qualified social workers interested in joining Bournemouth’s successful team should contact Gill Bishop on 01202 451712 or email gill.bishop @bournemouth.gov.uk Anyone interested in becoming a foster carer should contact the fostering and placements team on 01202 456789.
