3:13pm Thursday 24th January 2013 in News By Jane Reader
A 20-YEAR-OLD Bournemouth man suffered serious injuries when he was punched in the face outside a nightclub.
The victim needed hospital treatment for facial injuries after the attack, which took place outside V, near the Moon in the Square pub in Exeter Road at 3.30am on Tuesday January 22.
He was struck after a verbal altercation with three unknown men, all aged between 18 and 25.
The attacker is described as having an olive skin and he was with two other men, one black and one white. They ran off in the direction of Bournemouth Square after the incident.
“This attack has left the victim with serious injuries” said DC Jo Shewbridge of Bournemouth CID.
“I am appealing for witnesses to assist with the investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111. Mobile phone tariffs may apply.

That place will be the next to go. Foreign student night as well. On a Tuesday. So after yesterday's posts about bliss and chilli whites locals course all the trouble in town. Think again.

It really is about time that clubs and bars had their opening hours.

They may have been in one of the hotels up on West Cliff or even walked from another part of town & just happened upon this spot for a punch up. These things do happen.
Besides, even if they had been in V or Lola Lo, then unfortunately neither venue can't be to blame. It took place apparently on the street outside, not inside the premises. The only ones to blame are those involved and the sooner they get identified & charged the better..

Although the likelihood is that those involved had been in one or tow of the clubs in the vicinity, nothing in the report apart from the location of the incident can categorically prove it. I think it's a bit silly to conclude anything along these lines with such a lack of convincing evidence.

tricky1007 wrote:Yes - hard fact to prove and also hard for the bars to carry out. Where does the duty of care end? For example, a bloke leaves bar at 2am after a couple of pints which is enough to turn him (but not a normal person) into an idiot. He hangs around the square for half an hour, the fresh air hits him & he punches someone. Is it still down to lack of duty of care from the bar?

At the end of the day, if a person is of legal drinking age, goes into a pub or club & causes trouble, inside or outside then duty of care or not, they are due to face up to the outcome of their own actions and the responsibiility shouldn't be passed onto anyone else.
