A BOURNEMOUTH charity is offering support to people aged over 65 who are struggling to pay fuel bills this winter.

Dorset Community Foundation’s Surviving Winter Appeal, which is backed by the Daily Echo, has raised £14,000 to donate to those in need.

Grants will be made available through local branches of the Citizens Advice Bureau, with money available for eligible candidates who need help paying bills, money for heating repairs, befriending schemes, help with transport and more.

The appeal has also funded a limited supply of Ezi-Melt de-icing salt for use on domestic paths.

The Foundation’s business development manager Daisy Ilchovska said support for the appeal is still needed, with donations down this year.

She said: “This is the third year Dorset Community Foundation has run the appeal, and once again it is working at a strategic level to generate extra funding for local charities and community groups who are providing immediate help and assistance to vulnerable older people and those at risk this winter.”
