Line-up revealed for Wimborne Folk Festival

THE NEW Wimborne Minster Folk Festival has announced its line-up for this summer’s event.

Artists confirmed include the Albion Band and BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards nominees Blair Dunlop, the Carrivick Sisters and Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts.

It is the first year for the revamped festival, which has been organised by a new committee of volunteers after the event was cancelled in August last year. Organisers have promised three days of folk, family and fun, with the much-loved mix of dance displays, family activities, workshops and stalls returning to the historic minster town’s streets on June 7, 8 and 9.

Is it true that they were trying to get Simon and Garfunkel in order that they could dedicate their most famous 1969 hit 'Troubled Bridge Over Water' to Poole Council?

The old committee did a fantastic job for many years, but personally I'm glad to see a break in the festival's love affair with all things Irish, which never did sit comfortably with the largely English dance events.
Here's to many more years of a successful festival embracing the full range of a vibrant folk scene.
All we need now is to get Bellowhead to headline! Still, they're at Lighthouse in Poole on February 15 - so that's a bonus.

I'd go if they got Motorhead and Slash.

Me too if they got ACDC and Metalica. Me personally cannot go near the place when it's on as I have a Morris dancer phobia!

I don't think that would class as a Folk festival somehow. Having said that, I'd definitely be there.
