MP Chris Chope: tell us how much hospital merger application has cost

CHRISTCHURCH MP Chris Chope has asked how much the application to merge the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital has cost.

The MP, who has previously been critical of the proposed merger between the two local hospital trusts, asked the Secretary of State for Health, what the total cost was to both hospitals separately.

He also asked for an estimate of additional costs incurred by each trust before the application would be determined by the Competition Commission.

MP Dr Dan Poulter, parliamentary under secretary of state for health, said the information was not held by the department.

He said they had written to the trust’s chairmen, Jane Stichbury and Angela Schofield, to inform them of the enquiry.

I find it interesting that an MP who is so pro privatisation is making such a public show of his interest in these costs.

Either Mr Chope wants to introduce competition into the NHS as this government prepares it for privatisation, or he wants the NHS to remain in state ownership, he seems to want it both ways.

Just as each one of the 20 odd rail franchises costs round about £100 million just to process the initial agreement, the administrative costs of introducing faux choice will cost huge amounts, no point supporting the policy then moaning that it is expensive?

Compared to his expense claims and what his pays his wife out of public funds I doubt it is too much.

That's not all he's been saying today either. He's calling for an increase in the taxpayer subsidies that allow MP's to consume top quality food and alcohol in The Commons restaurants and bars at a fraction of the cost we would pay in order to encourage more MP's to "dine in". If that wasn't bad enough he called the restaurant staff "servants" and despite being challenged maintains that they are "servants". Dear oh dear.

Chope is a clueless buffoon and not fit to be an MP. From single handedly ruining any chance of a vote on the clock change issue just over a year ago to calling staff in the House of Commons restaurant servants, he proves himself to be an out of touch snob who I hope will either retire or get voted out of office at the next election.
