New council houses being built for Boscombe

BOURNEMOUTH council is building two new council houses in Boscombe.

The two three-bedroom family homes, in St Clement’s Gardens, will be part of the council's housing stock and available to those on the housing register.

Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “Providing affordable housing is a key priority for the Council, particularly the development of good quality family housing.

“The development at St Clement’s Gardens is one of several schemes that are being put forward to provide 105 new council homes in the borough.

"This will not only go some way in helping to alleviate those residents currently on the Council’s housing register but also contribute positively to the regeneration of Boscombe.”

The work is being funded by £283,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), prudential borrowing and other funding sources and the houses should be finished by July.

Here's hoping that whoever is allocated one of these houses is not allowed to buy it at a later date but that the honorable thing is done and they are kept as housing stock for the use of others in need rather than being sold on to make a profit for the greedy who don't need the Council's help anymore and can afford to move out into a property that they have bought privately .

I suppose 2 counts as plural, the headline gives the impression of an estate

Wow two new council houses for the council house stock. I wonder how many new people have registered to go on the council waiting list since these were announced I bet more than two.
We need hundreds of council houses built not ones owned by private developers who are only in it for profit. I blame Thatcher for killing the council house and a place for the needy to live. She killed this country.

Always blame Thatcher of course. But don't forget she was aided and abetted by all those 'working class' who bought up the properties they lived in at below market rates. Council tenants were not kicked out or had the houses sold over their heads.

I bet it will go to those who shout the
loudest and cause the council the most
trouble, hopefully it will go to decent
families in need.

Agreed BUT I doubt it as it would be unfair to all newcomers to this town.
