Bournemouth parking meters raked in £261,000 Bournemouth parking meters raked in £261,000

A TOTAL of £261,055 was paid into on-street parking meters in Bournemouth between September and December 2012 – even though drivers had no chance of receiving a ticket.

Bournemouth’s traffic wardens have not issued fines to any motorists parked in meter controlled zones since September 7, after an independent adjudicator upheld an appeal against a fine.

In his ruling, the adjudicator said he could not find a traffic regulation order requiring motorists to display a ticket in their cars.

Following this judgement, enforcement was suspended but the parking meters remained in use. The council urged motorists to continue to buy and display a ticket and the latest figures show that many have obliged.

Bournemouth council has said it is reviewing its legal documents and could reinstate enforcement at any time.

Quote from Saturdays Echo "WE won’t treat motorists like cash cows – that’s the pledge from a Bournemouth councillor who has vowed to try and keep parking prices down.

And Cllr Michael Filer said the council would not “milk” motorists in an attempt to boost their budgets."
.
Just proves you can't believe a word uttered by Bournemouth councillors.

How are they allowed to let people carry on using these machines if there's no chance of getting a ticket? If it was a shop with products it would be under some kind of fraudulant 'trades description' thing.

The Council dont want to "Milk The Motorist" yeah Right.!! If that were the case why havent they covered the meters as out of order.? We all know why dont we £87.000.00 per month wrong full income.! Have to agree with reader "Spooki" on this. Still let motorists know by word and mouth then maybe the next months fiddle might be alot less income.!!

Lets face it, Bumouth is still in the dark ages when it comes to parking. For example, in Winchester parking is free on Sundays.

Also, the meters, why not copy Southampton and install meters that accept credit cards? The if you are out of change its not an issue.

Next, knock down the Castle Dump development and start again.

Let us be realistic most motorists are paying these meters primarily because they fear being ticketed. In other words they are currently being misled.

So could someone with a greater knowledge on such matters remind us what is the legal definition of 'obtaining money by deception'.

Good to see the posters above are decent honest people. Why not pay for a service that you are using (i.e. the parking space)? Bet you leave a tip at at restaurant (not KFC - that's not a restaurant) ON TOP OF what you've already paid for: the meal and the service to deliver the meal/drinks to your table. Or do you wander into the restaurant's kitchen and fetch the plate yourself?

What?

How did we jump from potentially invalid Parking Meters to restaurants and taking a swipe at Kentucky Fried Chicken!
