UPDATED: Jessops stores close with the loss of 1,370 jobs

Jessops at Castlepoint on Friday
ALL branches of the camera chain Jessops closed on Friday afternoon, with the loss of 1,370 jobs nationwide.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which was appointed to the group on Wednesday, announced on Friday that it would begin the process of shutting the 187-store network at the close of business that day.
The branches included those at Poole's Dolphin Centre and Castlepoint in Bournemouth. A branch in central Bournemouth closed last year.
At Castlepoint, a note left on the window by staff said the shop had closed at 4pm.
"Our apologies to all of our local, and all of our new customers," it said.
"It has been a pleasure serving your photographic needs. We hope to see you again."
Among the would-be customers who turned up after the closure was a woman who had ordered a camera.
Jessops is the first high-profile retail casualty of 2013, after suffering from online competition and a boom in camera phones in recent years, hitting demand for digital cameras.
Have you placed an order with Jessops or been left with gift vouchers you are unable to spend? Let us know in the comments below.
The administrators said further job losses were likely at the group's head office in Leicester.

I bought a camera from them about six weeks ago and was given a printing voucher for £40 which is now worthless and I'm not very happy about that but the staff weren't to know back then. I feel sorry for anyone who bought or were given gift vouchers as Christmas presents or have left deposits.

I feel sorry for the employees as there's not much hope of finding another job in this God forsaken useless country.

It is terrible when business go out of business, for the employees and everyone. I wonder what the investment companies that own the shopping centres are doing to help these companies as they struggle? Probably very little.

If you've got a gift voucher you, or the person who bought it if on credit card, can register with the administrators as a creditor and you MIGHT get a few pence back when the company is finally wound up.
