DORSET police are stepping up their search for witnesses of an attempted armed robbery in Verwood last week.

A 59-year-old woman was threatened with a gun by a man demanding money as she was getting into her car in the Chiltern Drive Morrisons car park at around 7.25pm on Friday, January 4.

However the woman, from Wimborne, screamed on being confronted and the robber ran off.

Officers will be returning to the scene between 6-11pm today in a renewed attempt to find witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Ian Fletcher, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We want to reassure the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the offender and we hope that as people shop we’re able to locate further witnesses.”

The gunman is described as white, aged between 30 and 40, of medium build, with a northern accent. He was clean-shaven with a black woollen hat, a dark jumper with a black gilet and black woollen gloves.
