Co-op store plan refused permission
5:13pm Thursday 10th January 2013 in News By James Durkin
The site of the former police station
PLANS for a late-night supermarket at a former Poole police station have been rejected by Poole planners.
Borough of Poole planning committee members unanimously ruled against proposals that could have paved the way for a new Co-op convenience store at the former Ashley Road station house.
They cited concerns over highway and pedestrian safety for its refusal.

Apart from the six or so spaces immediately outside in the car park, there will simply be nowhere to stop to nip in for a crate of beer or a pack of f-a-gs. Beach users and those heading for the chain ferry will simply stop on the pavement on busy days straddling the cycle lane. This is a traffic disaster waiting to happen.

I'd rather not have my bed near the chiller section if that's ok.

Must not upset the locals who have been here a long time, well last october actually.

I don't think anyone would like to live opposite a supermarket which was being built out towards the residents houses, lorries bringing deliveries and parking on the main road-hence safety, noise, and as 'arthur maureen' put, original planning applications were for housing. No mention of a supermarket. To buy a house and then have that thrown at you is a good enough reason to oppose without even considering all the other factors. Well done to the residents for standing up to these big companies. Ashley road is littered with convenience stores and supermarkets there isn't a need for more!

pete woodley wrote:I think you will find Pete that there are alot of families living on ashley road and even a childrens centre. So I can't see what point you are making. Re the safety aspect it was regarding pedestrians, not just children. However putting a supermarket in a mainly residential area is the point in question not why a family with a small child decided to buy there first home on Ashley road. :-)

Pete do you have shares in the co op?? ;-) Because i cant see the need for 2 co ops to be on Ashley road within a radius of .4 miles from each other?? If you took a drive down Ashley road you might understand what the residents are getting at :-)
