Police hunt scrap metal thieves who raided Poole building
1:49pm Tuesday 8th January 2013 in News
A GANG of scrap metal thieves have targeted a Poole building containing rare 'high-value steel components'.
Police are hunting the five-man gang after they broke into the secure garage in Hamworthy on Friday evening.
The burglary, on the garage in Russell Gardens, took place between 9pm and 9.20pm.
Investigators have not revealed the cost of the stolen metal, but PC Simon Hatch, of Poole police, said: “The items taken from the garage were high value steel components from pumping equipment which are extremely heavy and rare.”
Officers say the five men responsible used a red Peugeot car and a white transit style van during the raid.
PC Hatch said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, observed any suspicious activity or saw a red Peugeot or white transit van in the area to contact police urgently.
“I also urge anyone who has been offered such products since to call Dorset Police as soon as possible.”
Call police on 101 quoting incident number 4:454.

Sounds like Russellers in the i run and steal business to me!
What I want to know is why the Police are not warning scrap metal dealers that if they are caught handling stolen metal that they will be prosecuted and severely fined or even jailed?
Perhaps they could stake out one of these dealers and track the vehicles coming and going to see who's legitimate or not?
Oh whoops, sorry there's no profit in that. Send the officer to hide in a bush by the side of the road with a ray gun to make money from someone doing 5mph over a deliberately reduced speed limit instead. That's sensible policing.

Besides, that is a residential road, full of houses, so if the value of the items is so high, why wasn't there an alarm on the garage? At least someone would have heard it going off and known it was a break-in.
