Poole residents: keep your bins out until 11pm if necessary

WITH Poole’s refuse and recycling resuming after the Christmas and New Year break, residents are being reminded to put their wheelie bins out for collection.

Borough of Poole says refuse bins and blue bins should be placed on the kerbside by 7am on the normal collection day ready to be emptied by collection teams.

Due to the increase in waste, times may differ from normal and residents are asked to leave their bins out until 11pm.

“Collection services have been operating smoothly following the Christmas holiday period in which crews are given the Christmas week off in lieu of the bank holidays they work during the rest of the year,” said Cllr Xena Dion, cabinet portfolio holder for the environment.

“Additional refuse vehicles are being used to cope with the extra Christmas waste and we would like to thank residents for their support and assistance during this time."

I am always surprised that Poole Council do not collect domestic refuse during the Christmas and New Year period. I fully appreciate that their employees like many others, prefer to be at home during the festive break but surely that is the time of year when the collections are needed most? I am advised that other councils such as Bournemouth collect during this period and I do think there should be some obligation to provide a service that we all pay for.
