THE devastated family of a keen cyclist, killed in a rush-hour horror crash as he rode to work, have paid a heartfelt tribute to a “kind and devoted” father.
David Timothy Irving, aged 48, from Wimborne, died in the scene of accident on Southampton’s A33 Mountbatten Way last week.
His long-term partner and two daughters have been left heartbroken by the tragedy. In a family statement they also described David as “fun-loving” and “thoughtful.”
A Hampshire Police spokesman confirmed: “David has been described as kind, thoughtful and devoted to his long term partner and two beautiful daughters. He had a great sense of humour and love of cycling, skiing and kayaking.
“David Timothy Irving died from his injuries at the scene of the crash involving multiple vehicles during rush hour last Monday (Dec 17) morning.
He was on his way to work as an IT consultant at Carnival Cruise Lines.
“The family would like to thank the police, friends and neighbours for all their support at this very difficult time.”
Mr Irving was wearing a bright orange fluorescent jacket at the time of the collision.
Two men, a 37-year-old from West End who was driving a white Ford Transit minibus, and a 56-year-old from Fordingbridge who was driving a silver Mercedes coupe, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
They have been bailed until March next year.
Police are still anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, which took place around 8.45am on December 17.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “Anyone with information is asked to contact the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh, quoting Operation Ruddy, on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."
