12:30pm Monday 24th December 2012 in News
HOMELESS people in Bournemouth have been receiving presents donated by customers at Flirt café bar.
About 300 gifts were handed in to be collected by BCHA in support of the Sleep Safe campaign to help people off the streets.
The café has also been encouraging customers to buy scarves from the twotoo.co.uk website which also helps the homeless.

fedupwithfedupjobswoI agree with you on this one. Although some BI sellers are OK and stand quietly, there are many that can be quite offensive. In this case I've walked past and seen this one actively encouraging other "down and outs" (for want of a better name) to hang around this area by giving them free cigarettes, food and money.

Perhaps they could make an ongoing donation to the Big Issue on the promise they don't station a seller on that corner!
This just then encourages them to come back and spread along the area. Next stop in their sights is of course FLIRT customers who sit outside. They've paid full whack for their FLIRT food and drink, only to have these beggars come along and bother them for free cigarettes, money, or they hover and make customers uncomfortable waiting for them to leave so they can pounce on the leftovers.
In my regular passings I've noticed over the last few months that FLIRT service to it's outside tables has "lost it's spark" and staff hardly come out anymore. The tables and chairs are not actively and regularly dried from the rain or cleaned either.
There's also no more ashtrays on the outside tables (most likely because the actively-encouraged beggars have been doing their filthy habit of taking the butts out of them, often in front of paying customers, and have probably stolen several along with the butts). So now I get to see lots of cigarette butts on the pavement area outside FLIRT.
Again, the staff should be doing their job and getting out there to sweep up on a regular basis, but hey! that would mean being proud of your job and the company you are working for.
Things that appear to be slipping at FLIRT, especially as the owners seem to be more interested in "charity" than their very business that is there to pay their own bills. Charity is good, but keep it in perspective and concentrate on your core business and its value to paying customers first
This BI seller has also got quite territorial lately and so has his dog, who barks and goes for the dogs of passers-by for no reason (even when they are not near it). He's left the dog unsupervised many times, taking the risk that it won't spot a passing dog while he's away).
