A DEDICATED volunteer from Bournemouth has been shortlisted in the PDSA’s annual awards for his outstanding commitment to the charity.

Terry Joyce has made it to the final four in the Key Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of the work he does for the charity’s busy store in Winton.

The 67-year-old, who has been a volunteer with PDSA for nearly eight years, gives up 35 hours of his time every week to help the charity, which raises vital funds for local sick and injured pets.

PDSA store manager, Gee Little, who nominated Terry for the award, said: “Terry is virtually a volunteer assistant store manager.

“His commitment to getting every available penny into the till would put most businesses to shame.

“Although he is in constant pain with rheumatoid arthritis, he never complains and is always joking with staff and customers alike.

“Terry is an inspiration to work with.”

Animal lover Terry said he first decided to volunteer for PDSA as a thank you’ to the charity for looking after his pet dog Sally when she was ill and needed treatment.

He said: “Because they did a wonderful job and at the time I couldn’t afford to pay them back with money I wanted to pay them back with my time.”

The PDSA Volunteer Awards are now in their tenth year and are supported by Volunteering England and Pets at Home. The winners will be announced in the New Year.
