Cyclist and car in crash on major city route
A WIMBORNE man was killed yesterday morning after a multi-vehicle crash in Southampton.
The 48-year-old, who was cycling on the A33 Mountbatten Way into the city centre, was wearing a bright orange fluorescent jacket at the time of the collision.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving – a 37-year-old from West End who was driving a white Ford Transit minibus, and a 56-year-old from Fordingbridge who was driving a silver Mercedes Coupe.
Both men were still in custody yesterday evening.
A Home Office pathologist will conduct a post mortem on Thursday at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and the man will not be identified by police until then.
Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the collision, or who saw the cyclist prior to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to ring 101 and ask for Operation Ruddy at the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh.

The same went the way of the Daily Echo (Southampton) comments yesterday where it soon went into a war of words.
My heartfelt condolences to the poor cyclists family and everyone else affected too.
