"Tragic accident" claimed life of three-day-old baby
8:16am Friday 7th December 2012 in News
A DAD told of the moment he woke to find his newborn baby lifeless in his arms.
Southampton Coroner’s Court heard Patrick Light, 20, had fallen asleep on the sofa with his three-day-old son James on his chest.
When mum Jasmine Cutler, 21, woke up to feed her son, he was found lying on Mr Light’s left arm, between his torso and the back of the sofa.
The couple, of Marryat Road, New Milton, tried to rouse the child but rushed round to a nearby relative’s house when they released he would not wake up.
Attempts to revive the baby failed and he died at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Recording a verdict of death through natural causes, coroner Keith Wiseman said: “What has happened with the situation during the night in question is not uncommon – but a tragic end is far less common.”
