A CHARITY-SUPPORTING horse racing event which has grown to become a popular family day out in Dorset is set to be bigger and better for 2013, organisers say.

The Jackson-Stops and Staff Countryside Alliance Point to Point is due to be held on Sunday, February 24 at Badbury Rings near Wimborne.

The charity chosen as the recipient is the Dorchester-based Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

The day provides some of the most exciting horse racing of the season and consistently attracts record entries. The event’s success is also based on its family appeal with countryside activities, have-a-go areas for children, country crafts, local food stalls, Parade of the Portman Hounds, Junior Countryside Apprenticeship Silent Auction and a shopping village.

Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Barney White-Spunner said: “This has become an exciting and important event for the Alliance where those of all ages with an interest in the countryside will be welcomed and entertained.”

Julian Bunkall and James Wilson, directors of the event’s major sponsor Jackson-Stops and Staff said it was a ‘unique day out in a glorious rural setting.’ For those who enjoy the VIP treatment, special Patrons Packages are available including premier parking, two entry tickets, use of patrons tent with food and refreshments all day and a champagne reception before racing. The £50 packages can be purchased by calling 01752 830430.

Gates and Shopping Village open 9am, Terrier Racing 10am, Hound Parade 10.30am. First Race 12 noon. Entry is £20 per car. Picnics welcome.
