UPDATED: Free parking in Poole at Christmas time

First published in News

FREE parking and the return of the park and ride service aims to make Christmas shopping easier in Poole this year.

Residents and visitors can enjoy free parking in all town centre car parks every Sunday between 8am and 6pm until December 23, on Thursday nights from 6pm to 9.30pm from November 29 until December 13, every evening between 6pm and 9.30pm from Monday December 17 to Saturday December 22 to tie in with late night opening of the Dolphin Shopping Centre.

District car parks at Broadstone, Ashley Road, Penn Hill, Ashley Cross and Canford Cliffs will also offer free parking from noon until 6pm on the three Saturdays before Christmas - December 8, 15 and 22.

Borough of Poole's park and ride will operate from Creekmoor every Saturday from December 1 until Christmas.

Sponsored by the Dolphin Centre, buses will leave the park and ride every 15 minutes from 8am until 6pm and the 10-minute trip into town costs £1.50 for an adult return, accompanied children 50p.

Castlepoint is always free and has better shops. Poole council treat the public like idiots particularly when they do away with 1 hour parking as they 'want to encourage shoppers to stay for longer'. Nope - I will now not go at all.

Agreed!

It really is not such a mystery - the death of the High Street shops.
.
The authorities are already aware of this or they wouldn't be offering free parking to catch the Christmas trade.

I really cannot see any reason to shop in Poole.

Everything I need is available out of town, and the town centre is depressing. It wasn't ten years ago.

Too late. I gave up going anywhere near any local town centres because of the disgustingly high parking charges and greed of the Councils. My next stop is Castlepoint. They charge you £0.00 to park all year round. Get it Council morons? You greedy scum have all but killed Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch town centres. You must be so proud.

parking is already free at the car park next to sainsbury's. if you spend £5 in sainsburys the parking cost is refunded. most people know that so this " generous " council offer is a joke.

As much I think the councils in the conurbation are inept, I don't think the gradual decline of the high street is entirely their fault.

I agree that parking charges levied against shoppers will turn people away to an extent.

Why do people care so much about the high street anyway?
