BEST FEET FORWARD: The runners set off
MORE than 300 people together raised £6,000 for three Dorset hospices by taking part in a sponsored run on Bournemouth seafront.
Keen charity runner Wayne Lyle travelled from Essex to take part in the Hospice 10k in memory of his mother, winning the 5k event from Bournemouth to Boscombe Pier in 19 minutes. His nephew Aaron Baker of Poole was close behind.
Wayne, whose mother attended Lewis-Manning Hospice before dying at Forest Holme Hopsice in Poole in 2010, said: “I take part in around 30 charity runs each year but the Hospice 10k has a special place in my heart. My mother really loved her time at Lewis-Manning and it is my chance to give something back and say a big thanks to the staff.”
Wheelchair user Ben Whitney came first in the 10k route, tackling the route from Bournemouth Pier to Southbourne and back in 32 minutes, and Harry Lauste was the fastest runner with 38 minutes.
The money raised by the fun runs will be split between Lewis-Manning, Forest Holme and Julia’s House, the Dorset children’s hospice.
