IT was lights, camera, action at a glitzy film premiere for Weymouth schoolchildren.

Year Four pupils donned their finery to walk the red carpet at Holy Trinity School.

They were joined by their parents to view films they had devised, filmed and edited themselves on a big screen in the school hall.

Year four leader Jane Walmsley said the pupils, all aged eight or nine, filmed news reports based on popular children’s book The Mousehole Cat.

She said: “We made it like an Oscars night with a red carpet so they could make a grand entrance.

“A lot of the children and their parents dressed up.

“The parents loved the films and a lot of them wanted to buy the DVDs.”

Year four students filmed the news reports using Weymouth Harbour as a backdrop.

The young reporters reported on a cat that goes with its master on a fishing expedition in rough seas, On-location reports were also done from a local pub and part of Holy Trinity was dressed up to use as a studio background.

Mrs Walmsley said: “All of the children were involved and there were four teachers including myself organising it.

“Some of the children wanted to be on camera but those who didn’t did some camera work or did animation for the video.

“They all had a go at importing the video and doing some editing themselves.”

Choc ices were sold at the red carpet event to raise money for a school residential trip to the Viking Long House in Cranborne.
