Rugby club cleans FOUR KILOS of dog mess from youth pitch

Clean up this mess - the youth team on the pitch
COMPLAINTS about the state of a Bournemouth rugby club pitch have led to calls for dog owners to pick up after their pooches.
Youngsters and adult members of East Dorset Rugby Club at Iford are forced to clear the pitch of multiple piles of dog mess before every training session and match they play.
The situation has become so intolerable, the club are asking Bournemouth council for a low level fence to be built around the pitch to alert people not to take dogs on there.
Howard Larkin, acting chairman of the club, said: “The situation is pretty dire at the moment.
“I reckon we picked up about 4kg on Saturday morning. The amount on the pitch is unbelievable.
“It’s really nasty and we’ve noticed it has got especially worse lately since we started doing the youth rugby in the last couple of years.
“The problem is the car park is right by the fields and I think dogs must jump out and go before their owners can catch them.
“Ultimately it’s really irresponsible and for us, a massive inconvenience.
“We have to make sure the whole pitch is clear before we allow anyone to play on their, especially the youngsters. It’s a health hazard.”
Mr Larkin added: “What would be ideal is if we could have a low level fence around the pitch to mark it out for people.
“They might take a bit more notice of it then.”
Michael Rowland, parks development manager, said: “We are aware of issues at Iford Playing Fields and other parks sites, however we do not believe a low-level fence around the pitch is a sustainable solution.
“We will continue to patrol the area and we will clean up the park where we can.
“We strongly urge those few irresponsible dog owners to pick up after their pets and use the bins provided.
“If we do catch individuals we operate a no excuses policy and issue on the spot fines.
“We will stay in touch with the rugby club and ask for support from them alongside responsible park users in catching people who let their dogs foul our parks and open spaces.”

Mike Rowland ,a question for you ,how many on the spot fines have you issued at Iford ? would it not be worthwhile posting one of your blokes with a camera at the known trouble spots over a week and get serious about tackling the problem

cleaning the mess up seems an ideal job for people doing community service
I think a change in the law is needed. It should be compulsory, that dog owners should have the means on them to clean up their dogs mess. Fine the one's that don't, and double fine those that leave their dogs mess for the dog mess fairies to clean up!

I think I'll give the ice cream a miss next time I go to East Dorset RC.
And then it came to me what a great idea for what looks to be a really efficient poop scoop! ...
So it's hello again to the old un loved ice cream scoop that has been knocking around in my kitchen draw for years. I never have been one for ice cream anyway ;0)

Where are the dog defenders?
"Goaty", "DJD", High treason", where are you?
Maybe, just maybe you are getting the message that the non Egyptians (you know those people who dont worship dogs) have a valid point after all!
Watch out for those Asps! (and that other stuff that you lot dont pick up).

dog friendly parks have council supplied
poop bins and free doggie bags for
owners to clean up the mess. $200 fines
for not cleaning up after your pooch,
covers the councils cost of providing
the materials. The whole system
works pretty well to keep parks free
of dog poo. Maybe Bournemouth
council should try the same system.

Pity there isn't more white dog poo these days like there was in the 70s and early 80s. It would be a lot easier to spot and avoid.
When my dogs have bones it goes pale but never white weird!!!!!!!!

RageAgainstTheMachinThanks for your comment, I too have not seen white dog poo since riding my bike around Winton Rec in the 70's. Now I know why - you live and learn.

It really does make me laugh that people are up for the council cashing in on dog mess and yet the minute the discussion goes onto motorists people are up in arms about it stiating that car owners are picked on and that fines are a money making exercise. In todays day and age it would be almost impossible to enforce. I dont think their is a person out there that would willingly fine a man who had for argument sake a staffy.

Put poop bins either side and electrified fences together with IED's and Mortar. Follow up with torture (listening to my wife go on about how hunky Bournemouth footballer Steve Fletcher is) and I bet it will stop.

Then the Ancient Egyptians were smarter than the "dog people" in Bournemouth!
I bet they filled their papyras bags with dog poo.
Take a look at the sargophaguses, the dogs were worshiped!
