Representatives from West Dorset parishes were invited to help the Bishop of Salisbury develop the future of the diocese.

The Bishop, Nicholas Holtam, set the scene for the future development of the Diocese of Salisbury at a meeting of the Diocesan Synod last weekend.

He invited parish representatives from across Dorset and Wiltshire to discuss ‘the personality and character of the diocese’ in order to develop for the future.

His presentation included reflections based on his first year as Bishop as he looks at ways in which parishes can renew their ministry for mission.

The Bishop said: “This isn’t a completed vision: I’m asking Synod to contribute to a new approach.

“The pace of the Diocese will be set by local parishes and schools; a pace informed by their priorities and involvement in their communities.

“It’s a change and I want as many people as possible to have their say.”

Synod will also heard the Archdeacon of Sarum’s, the Ven.

Alan Jeans’ proposals for his new additional role in identifying and encouraging new forms of ministry and mission, as well as details of Christian Aid’s international Tax Justice Campaign.
