Rape accused appears in court

A MAN accused of raping a young woman as she walked alone near Poole Hospital has appeared in court.

Thomas Andrew Coutts, 20, of Main Street, Peterborough, was before a judge at Bournemouth Crown Court yesterday for a short plea and case management hearing.

He pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and was told his trial would take place at Bournemouth on February 4 next year.

The charge relates to an incident which took place at around 2am on Monday August 20 when a woman, aged in her 20s, was raped as she walked along Longfleet Road in Poole.

Coutts was remanded in custody.
