SOCIAL housing tenants in Poole are being urged to voice any safety concerns they have about their accommodation following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Housing and planning minister Alok Sharma has been holding events and workshops across the country to meet and hear from council housing association and housing co-op tenants and build up an understanding of the issues they face.

Following discussions with some of the National Tenant Organisations across England, the government has identified a number of issues about the safety of tenants, complaint management, and ensuring good quality services from landlords.

Around 1,000 tenants’ views have been expressed during the 12 events organised across the country, but a feedback questionnaire has been created so more people can share their concerns.

The survey is offering all council, housing association and housing co-op tenants the opportunity to express their key issues and concerns about social housing based on their own experiences.

Social housing provider Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) is urging tenants in the borough to complete the questionnaire.

A spokesperson for PHP said: “Following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower earlier this year, the government are keen to hear from as many tenants as possible about their issues and concerns regarding social housing, as well as understanding how to create a more effective voice for tenants.

“This is your chance to express your views and help shape the national approach in the future. Please take a few minutes to complete an online questionnaire, which is available until January 31, 2018, at surveymonkey.co.uk/r/tenants2017.”

The feedback received through the questionnaire will be used when the government brings forward its social housing green paper.

In a speech to the National Housing Federation in September, communities secretary Sajid Javid said it would be “the most substantial report of its kind for a generation” and will address, not just safety issues, but the overall quality of social housing, service management, and the rights of tenants to ensure their voices are better heard.
