TWO talents from Dorset are hoping to be this year’s coveted Christmas No 1 with a quirky Mod song.

Quadrophenia star and Sherborne Dorset resident Gary Shail teamed up with Bournemouth musician Pat Davey to record the song, Modding Up My Christmas List, in a back room in Charminster.

The duo recorded a video for the track at The Silver Lounge in Wimborne Road which features scooters from Velocity in Moordown. It also features fellow Quadrophenia star Trevor Laird and Sherborne singer-songwriter Jo Burt.

Gary said: “When Pat played me the demo of the song I loved it straight away and wanted to record it. It’s a light-hearted Christmas song, a bit of fun for the festive season. I loved recording it and we had a great laugh making the video. My old mates Trevor Laird who played ‘Ferdy’ in Quadrophenia and Paul Wincer, the local drummer from The Lambrettas came along and guested in the video. It’s time we had a fun song at Christmas and I’m a fun guy so it’s a perfect match.”

Both Gary and Pat have connections to the Mod world. Gary starred as Spider in the iconic 1979 movie, Quadrophenia, alongside Sting, Toyah Wilcox and Phil Daniels. The cult film is based on events in Brighton in 1964 and next year sees 40 years since filming took place. Gary later went on to play Steve, the punky teenager in the TV show, Metal Mickey.

Pat is a musical director on popular, All or Nothing, which has just completed a successful second year of touring.

The song was released at the end of last month and a teaser video for the trailer has already notched up over 77,000 views on the Mod Radio Facebook page alone.
