POLICE caught a driver doing 70mph in a 30mph zone in Bournemouth on Saturday night.

Officers from Dorset Police No Excuse team had a busy weekend with several drug driving arrests being made as well as other incidents.

A spokesperson said the speeding incident took place on Castle Lane West, between Pizza Hut and Castlepoint.

The 20-year-old driver had just picked up some friends from a party when he was caught doing more than double the speed limit.

He was reported to court and could lose his licence, police warned.

On Friday night, a moped tailgating the team's unmarked car on the same road was arrested over drug driving offences.

The 17-year-old only had a provisional licence, with no learner plates. A Drugwipe test came back positive for cannabis and cocaine.

Another 21-year-old car driver was arrested for drug driving after officers spotted his brake lights weren't working and his MOT expired in September.

Other tickets over the weekend included the driver of a van, where a five-year-old was stood up on the passenger seat with no seatbelt or booster seat.

And a 48-year-old man was stopped and tested for drugs in Hamworthy. It came back positive for cannabis and cocaine.

One driver was spotted going through a red light in Charminster, before reversing back through it.

When police tested him for drugs, it came back positive for cannabis and cocaine.

"While on route back to Bournemouth custody for the fourth time, the driver asked us how he could join the police. The chat quickly finished when it was suggested he needed to stop taking drugs first", a spokesperson added.
