POLICE are hunting a man who punched a woman in the face when she tried to defend her boyfriend as he was being attacked.

They have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to identify after two people were assaulted in central Bournemouth in the early hours of Sunday August 13.

Officers were told that an unknown man approached a man and a woman, aged in their 20s, outside Debenhams in Bournemouth Square.

The offender then struck the man, knocking him to the ground, in an apparently unprovoked attack. The woman then attempted to defend her boyfriend, but she was punched in the face and knocked to the ground.

The victims both went to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

PC Peter Jelley, of Bournemouth police, said: "We believe this was an unprovoked attack and I am releasing an image of the suspect in the hope someone can identify him.

"Anyone with information about his identity or witnesses to the incident should contact Dorset Police or call Crimestoppers anonymously."
