FINAL arrangements are underway ahead of the popular Christchurch Carnival this weekend.

The annual parade will take place on Sunday, although events will be held all weekend at Christchurch Quay.

Leaving the Two Riversmeet car park at 2pm on Sunday, spectators can see the procession wind its way along Bridge Street, Castle Street and the High Street, before continuing down Sopers Lane and St Margaret's Avenue to the Quay.

As always there is a float competition and this year it is movie themed.

On Saturday, fun will take place from 10am, with craft stalls, cream teas, zumba dancing and the Wessex Majorettes.

There will be live music from 4pm, with Terry Nash performing his Meatloaf tribute act on Saturday night.

In the evening, the popular fireworks display, sponsored by Hoburne, will take place around 9.30pm.

The Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Nick Geary, is also expected to attend and make a speech before the firework display.

The Kaleidoscope Dancers will kick off the live performances at 12pm on Saturday.

On Sunday, the live entertainment will continue on the Quay, with many stalls on offer as well.

Entry for the Staffie Stray Dog Show starts from 12noon with judging set to begin at 1pm, before the carnival arrives at the quay.

All events take place at Christchurch Quay and the William Coles' Fairground on the Quomps.

As well as music and dance, there will be stalls, a bouncy castle and food on offer.

Christchurch carnival has been running for more than 100 years, organised by volunteers to raise money for local charities.

A carnival spokesman said: "This carnival weekend is for Christchurch, organised by Christchurch people, and supporting Christchurch based charities – so is dependent on support from residents too.

"Please come along and help to make this carnival weekend the best ever."
