IT'S been a busy week for police officers and members of the No Excuse team.

The enforcement team have been out and about catching drivers on their phones and without insurance.

And despite the high profile message of the dangers of driving while on your phone, some drivers continue to flout the law.

One driver was caught on Wallisdown Road on Friday, with his phone in his right hand talking to a friend on loud speaker, while driving at 40mph.

The driver received six points and fined £200.

A spokesperson for No Excuse said: "It's illegal to use a handheld mobile when driving. This includes using your phone to follow a map, read a text or check social media. This applies even if you’re stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.

"It is also illegal to use a handheld phone or similar device when supervising a learner driver.

"You are four times more likely to be in a crash if you use your phone."

On the same day, some motorists were caught without any insurance.

A range of excuses were made including: "I've been meaning to sort the insurance out, can I do it now?", "I haven't been paying the insurance, why have they stopped it?", "I know I haven't got insurance, I haven't got a job, normally I see you first actually but today I didn't and you got me".

All drivers with no insurance received six points, a £300 fine and their vehicle was seized.

Earlier in the week, a motorist was stopped for texting while driving. The driver only admitted the offence after trying to make off from the police and denying it.

Another driver was stopped after he was seen holding the phone to his left ear for one minute and 34 seconds. The No Excuse team said he was delivering phones on behalf of a "well known phone company".

Both drivers received six points and a £200 fine.
