HE is the gentleman poet who charmed the nation when he was looking for love on The Undateables.

And now Shaine Singer, who first starred in the TV series back in 2012, is back – and this time he has found his perfect match.

The 36-year-old from Bournemouth will feature in the Channel 4 show, which plays cupid for people with a disability, on Monday.

Viewers will watch on as the romantic is reunited with Gemma, a former schoolfriend from 23 years ago, who he takes on a series of dates.

Shaine, who has learning difficulties, said: “I think a lot of people were wondering what I was doing now.

He giggled: “I’m a lot of people’s favourite from the past shows! But I was a bit unsure whether to come back and do more and then I thought ‘why not?’ and the rest is history.”

The nation first fell in love with Shaine in 2012 after he met Jackie at a speed dating event for people with learning difficulties.

He sent her poetry, took her out twice and was won over by her ‘grace and elegance’ and ‘mesmerised’ by her eyes – but she just wanted to be friends.

However this time Shaine was pleasantly surprised his date was Gemma, who he first met at Winchelsea School, in Poole.

He said: “When they said my date was Gemma, I was astounded and shocked.

“We had kept bumping into each other for a few years. I had feelings for her and I think she secretly admired me but we never told each other.”

The pair hit it off instantly and went on three dates to Compton Acres, Poole, Shell Bay, Studland, and Shaine even took Gemma to watch him perform a poetry gig in Southampton.

Shaine, who has three books published, said: “I’ve written 12,000 poems now and she really loves my poems which is great.

“I dedicated a poem to her on stage and she went bright red, like a little raspberry. The audience melted. I think it went well.

“We had lots of giggles too. At Shell Bay, I accidentally sat on thistle and I fell over! Gemma was hysterical, it was very funny.”

The lovebirds are now enjoying time together – and they write love letters to each other every day.

Shaine, said: “We’re taking it slow and steady but we’re having a wonderful time all over again. It’s magic.

“Everyone wants love, don’t they? They want to find a soul mate, a best friend, a trusted companion, someone you can share moments with.

“Love is like a waiting game good or bad, it’s somersaults in your tummy and you don’t know when you’ll get the jitterbugs, it’s that funny butterfly feeling that almost elevates you up.

“Love is food, music, TV and film wrapped into one.

“Love is a river of chocolate. Every time you think of it, it’s sweet and soulful.”

“My perfect match is someone who mellows me, we can have chats and giggles and perfect cups of tea. Gemma is fun loving, she loves tea, she is mad on Elvis Presley, she loves my poetry, we write love letters every day and we laugh. It’s humour all the way.”

Shaine’s books The Book of Shaine, A Cup of Verbal Tea and A Hiccup in a Tea Cup are available online.
