HUNDREDS of motorists queued for two miles on the A35 in Poole after six vehicles were involved in two crashes on Thursday morning.

The first call came into Dorset Police from South Western Ambulance Service just after 7.30am yesterday morning reporting a crash near the Holes Bay Roundabout before the Upton bypass.

Motorists were believed to have been queuing back eastbound for around two miles while emergency services were on the scene.

Vehicles were at a standstill as police officers and ambulance staff worked quickly to assist the people involved.

The crash consisted of a white Ford KA registered to a woman from Poole, a green Ford Fiesta registered to a man from Dorchester and a blue VW Golf registered to a man from Wareham.

A police spokesperson added that the other vehicle in the collision was a single decker bus.

The spokesperson added that all of the people in the vehicles were able to get out safely and nobody was injured as a result of the crash.

Dorset Police then received a second call 30 minutes later with a report of a car and a motorbike.

The smash was located in the westbound direction located near to the Creekmoor turn-off.

One of the vehicles involved is a silver Ford Focus registered to a man from Wareham.

The people received only minor injuries after being assessed by staff from the ambulance service.

Motorists were being advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route by Dorset Police as traffic was reported to be gridlocked on the A35 and nearby roads.

Traffic was heavy on Blandford Road North as people tried to drive on or off the dual carriageway and onto the Upton flyover.

Some drivers reported delays of between 30 to 40 delays to their journeys as they made their way towards Bournemouth, Poole or Purbeck.

Vehicles were also tailed back on the A350 past Poole Fire Station along Holes Bay heading towards Poole town centre.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police thanked motorists for their patience while they dealt with the collision.

They added that the road was fully cleared in both directions by 9.15am. Vehicles continued to queue along the A35 after the road had re-opened.
