FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze affecting a large area of Turbary Common in Bournemouth yesterday.

Following multiple calls to the fire service, three crews rushed to the scene just after 4pm.

An off-road vehicle was then requested to put out the fire, which affected a 30mx30m area of grassland.

A spokeseperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Control said: “We received the first of around 15 calls at around 4pm.

“We were on scene within six minutes.

“Crews used one main line and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. It affected quite a large area.”

The fire was out within 45 minutes.

Police were informed of the fire, but a spokesperson for the force said no investigation was being carried out.
