A PRIMARY school teacher made his own version of Carpool Karaoke to mark his last week.

Chris Beedie, who is the music co-ordinator and a class teacher for Year 5 at Kinson Primary School, came up with the fun idea to make the karaoke-style video using a GoPro camera, which was shown to the school on Wednesday.

It sees various members of staff pick up Chris in their cars and share their journey to his home while miming along to various songs. These included I’m Still Standing by Elton John, I Want To Break Free by Queen and Summer Holiday by Cliff Richard.

Chris said: “We recorded it at lunchtimes and after school on Monday and Tuesday and then my brother, Matt, who is a media and film student, and I spent four hours putting it together.

“Three or four years ago, we did the Harlem Shake in the school playing fields. At the moment, Carpool Karaoke with James Corden is really popular and I am known for my viral-style videos so I couldn’t leave without doing one more.

“I wanted to choose holiday songs and then I sliced them together. The kids go on about Watch Me (Whip/ Nae Nae) song and I thought that they would never believe that their teachers would dance to it.

“I did 12 car journeys and I organised who was going into what cars. It was good fun.”

Asked how the other members of staff reacted when asked to star in the video, he said: “It didn’t take too much convincing. I put the idea on Facebook last weekend and then did a briefing on Monday morning.

“We went up Poole Lane, along Turbary Park Avenue and down Kinson Road, which we found was the length of the songs.

“I didn’t have an end to the video so we went with Goodbye sung by the Spice Girls.”

He said that head teacher, Victoria Bryan, was happy for the video to be made and features in the narrative throughout the six-minute piece.

He also said that the video received a fantastic reaction from parents and children at the school who had seen it on YouTube.

A spokesperson for the school said that it was some end of term fun for the teachers to be involved in, as the staff are a close-knit community.
