A Bank Holiday steam event is set to attract hundreds of people to Fisherman's Walk on Monday. There will be steam engines as well as classic motorbikes, pond dipping for the kids, stalls and games. Live music will also be performed in the bandstand and refreshments will be available. The event runs from midday until 5pm.

Hip hop extravaganza B-Town Throwdown returns to Bournemouth this weekend. The Purbeck Art Weeks (PAW) Festival launch takes place at Swanage Beach on Friday. The party will include music, dance, children from local schools, flags, processions, a new brass festival band and the unveiling of a special fish ceramic panel. Rollington Barn, near Corfe Castle, will showcase exhibitions every day of the 16-day festival, which has more than 100 artists taking part and has ‘Midsummer Dreams’ as its theme this year. A map on the door will also lead visitors to more than 40 artist studios across the district, which will be opened up for public view. The PAW festival runs at selected venues across Purbeck, May 28 -June 12.  For more information or to book tickets visit purbeckartweeks.co.uk

A 50s-inspired street party will be taking place in Sea Road, Boscombe, on Sunday. Charity Creative Kids will be celebrating its eighth birthday with a free family fun day which will feature live music from The Mother Ukers and Ruth O’Neil from Scarlett Swing, plus DJs, a traditional Punch & Judy Show, magic Show from Professor Count Backwards, arts and dance workshops with Pavilion Dance, face painting and children’s rides and games. Takes place from 12noon until 6pm.

A monthly wildlife club for children is being held at Durlston Country Park, on Lighthouse Road, on Saturday. The Young Rangers session runs from 10.30am to 12pm, meeting at the Learning Centre and is aimed at ages six to nine featuring craft activities and games. Booking is essential for the event, which costs £3 for one child, £5 for two children or £7 for three.  For more information, call Durlston Country Park on 01929 424443.

Moors Valley Country Park and Forest will launch a new children’s challenge on Saturday.  Created to encourage children of all ages to have fun outdoors, the Moors Valley Challenge brings 40 activities together in a special challenge booklet. Each completed activity is rewarded with a stamp and everyone who completes the book will be awarded a young ranger certificate and badge.

The next Monday morning meander takes place on May 30. The walk around Southbourne Overcliff starts at 10am leaving from Fisherman’s Walk cliff lift. It lasts for two hours. No need to book and the walks are free.

Gardens in Witchampton will open up their gates to the public this weekend. Everyone is welcome to the village’s open event on Sunday and Monday from 11am until 4.30pm featuring a mini beer festival, music, art exhibition, tractor rides and plants for sale.

A wildlife photography competition is taking place on Sunday.The event, which is open for all the family, takes place at Kingfisher Barn off Granby Road between 11am and 3pm. Participants need to bring a smart phone or digital camera to take the photos. The event is free and there's no need to book.

A spring fair will be held at Corfe Castle Village Hall, to boost funds for the hall’s renovation project. A group of residents called Crazy4Corfe have established the group which has organised the event, scheduled for May 29, between 10.30am-4pm. There will be stalls, home-made cakes, activities for kids and free parking. 

Toys “R” Us is holding a nationwide celebration this weekend to mark International Children’s Day on bank holiday Monday. The store in Poole will be taking part in the fun between 12pm and 3pm, with games and competitions on the day. There will also be a Treasure Hunt where kids will be encouraged to uncover five hidden treasures around the store to be in with a chance to win a Toys ‘R’ Us Trolley dash worth £500.
