A TRUCK pull, a penalty shootout competition, a bucking bronco and Zumba were just some of the activities on offer in Christchurch at the weekend.

The town’s quay hosted the Fit Christchurch Family Fun Day on Saturday, in a bid to encourage more people to take up exercise and start eating healthily.

Explaining the idea behind the fun day, event manager Peter Griffiths said: “This is all part of Christchurch Council and East Dorset District Council’s initiative to get people living healthier lifestyles, whether it is through leisure pursuits or what they eat – just getting people to try to live healthier lifestyles.

“So we’ve got a lot of local suppliers here, health practitioners and other organisations.

“It gives people an opportunity to find out what is going on in their local area and what they can do to get involved.”

Some of the more popular activities on the day included bucking broncos, zorbing and a truck pull.

When the Daily Echo caught up with Peter, he’d just witnesses the first contestant taking part in the 4x4 truck pull.

“It was a young lady contestant and she pulled the 4X4 over 20 metres, she did very well,” said Peter.

“The weather is not too bad, there is a bit of cloud cover but we’re expecting around one thousand people to have attended by the end of the day.”

Dorset’s Taekwondo demonstration team also performed at the event, which included representatives from other martial art, rowing and diving clubs.
