A FIRE crew from Christchurch was called to the recreation ground at Stanpit this afternoon after an area of heath caught light.

Firefighters put out the flames, which damaged an area measuring 10m by 10m.

The cause is not yet known.

Also this afternoon, a crew from Swanage fire station was sent out to tackle scrub and grass that had caught light at Harman's Cross railway station.

I'm surprised there are not more of these fires due to the hight of the dry grass, and the fact e council are trying yet again to save money and are not cutting it often enough .Although I doubt if the council leaders will see it that way.
