THESE tiny graduates donned ceremonial caps and gowns to celebrate the end of their first foray into education.

And the mortar boards flew as alumni from Pamphill Pre-School turned their thoughts to September, when they will go on to primary and first schools in east Dorset.

It is the second time that the pre-school has held such a graduation for pupils after the success of last year’s event, and the event was held under bright blue summer skies.

Manager Debbie Gould told the Daily Echo that the occasion helps children take the big step from nursery to school.

“We felt it was important to create a memorable time for them and their parents,” she said.

Wimborne Mayor Andy Hampton even visited wearing his ceremonial robes to enjoy the celebrations. The councillor – garbed in almost exactly the same red as the children – handed out certificates marked with names and the date to mark the exciting occasion.

He also had the opportunity to hear all about their dreams for adulthood, with two pilots, two bakers and even a Lego maker of the future among those making their way to big school this autumn.

Proud parents had the chance to watch the ceremony before all were treated to cake in the playground. The youngsters dressed in red as the pre-school’s logo is a brightly-coloured ladybird.

They were allowed to keep the tassels from their hats to commemorate the big day.
