Quarter of town’s arson attacks in Kinson area
 |
| SOCIAL BLIGHT: Arson attacks |
A QUARTER of all arson attacks carried out in Bournemouth last year were in one part of the town.
Dorset Fire Service figures show 26 per cent of deliberate fires were in either the Kinson North or Kinson South wards.
The figures were compiled by the Daily Echo after a Freedom of Information request.
They cover April 07 until the end of March this year.
The two Kinson wards had 93 deliberate fires, compared with 269 in the 16 wards that make up the rest of the town.
Kinson North Cllr Claire Smith said: "It's something we would like to have a meeting with the police and fire service about to see what is being done."
Gaynor Pollett, Dorset Fire Service's arson reduction co-ordinator, said that two years ago the Kinson figures were in their "hundreds".
"We have reduced them by 50 per cent over the last two years with arson taskforces," he said.
She said the area had had problems with grassland fires on places like Turbary Common and said the area had a high population.
Dorset Police's acting Inspector for North Bournemouth, Wayne Knock, said: "Last year we had some problems with cars being stolen and burned out in the area.
| “One fire is one too many." | | Kinson North's representative Cllr Val Lewis |
|
The fire service record it as arson and we would record it as a theft
"According to our figures we've had a 31 per cent drop since 2003."
Kinson North councillor Val Lewis said: "One fire is one too many. I'm not putting the blame on children because we don't know who is doing it."
The police and fire services said they had a variety of initiatives in place including leaflets, the swift removal of abandoned vehicles and the Enjoy Don't Destroy It campaign on grassland fires.
The fires are classified as "primary", where there is damage to a property with an insurable value like a house or a car, or "secondary" when the damage is to grassland, rubbish or derelict buildings.
Kinson North and South were both top for "primary" fires.
The figures showed Boscombe had low arson rates, while attacks were high in Strouden Park, and that the central ward had a summer peak related to the night-time economy.

I am pleased to say that no arson attacks have occured on Kinson Common since last August due to the fine work of Dorset Police & Dorset Fire & Rescue Services. They have worked together with local residents and other organisations to ensure this has happened. Bear in mind that arson had been a [italic][bold]very[/bold][/italic] regular occurance on site for many many years !

If you are waiting for the police to stop this or find the culprits [bold][italic]you can forget it.[/italic][/bold]
The so called Police are now and have been for years [bold]Revenue Men[/bold] / Policemen.
[bold]All effort goes into stinging drivers as Speeding has netted over Eight Hundred Million Pounds plus this year[/bold]
[bold]Sting operations are well in process[/bold] by parking unmarked Vans on the side of roads with the Camera setup they walk away. [bold]They have even been seen parking these vehicles on the Pavement and on double yellow lines[/bold] to make [bold]YOU think[/bold] they are some trader taking a risk so its dismissed. [bold]You cannot break the Law in order to enforce the Law,[/bold] they seem to [bold]forget this[/bold] .
[bold]Back to Arson attacks[/bold] , in Christchurch arson was rife setting fire to trees and bushes very nearly cost owners their property. From a reliable source, [bold]it wasn't until the culprit was traced and told to get out or be burnt out, did this stop The big mistake this arsonist made was to set fire to a property belonging to a Gangland Book Keeper.[/bold]
Roads hit were Arcadia Road, Jumpers Road, Grove Road West, Brisbane Road, Windsor Road. In the case of the owner of number [bold]6 Windsor Road the shock lead to the elderly gentlemen's death.[/bold]

Heathland fires !
Most if not all of the reported incidents are burnt out cars which are a problem nationwide.
They have dropped by 31% in the area thanks to work done by the Police etc.
I would like the Echo to let us know the figures for other areas in Bournemouth.

Knowing this [bold]stupid legal frame work[/bold] , the culprits if [italic]ever caught,[/italic] will most likely get an all expenses paid [bold]3 Months Holiday[/bold] in the Canary Islands. As said in the report, one fire is too many fires. I am bemused by the figures from both the report and what has been posted. I have been at friends in a road that has access to Kinson Common, and witnessed at least four attendances by the Dorset Fire Service accessing the common through this lane. Likewise the same, in fact more at Turbary Common.
93 fire incidents is a lot of fires for one area. There is no getting away with that.

Maybe not, but that answer was the answer I was waiting for Geoff. The report said the figures were from April 07 to end of March 08.
It is August when the main increase of fires and arson attacks occur, when the there is 6 or 7 weeks of school holidays, and the kids become bored, and the very few decide it is time for a burn. In the winter months is when these summer criminals crawl back under the blankets because it is too cold.

The point I would like to make is that heathland fires have dropped thanks to residents working with Police & Fire Services in giving information. I am sure that residents on the estates where these burning cars occur could do the same ! The Police need the information to act !
