Vokes looking forward to an England test
 |
| WELSH WONDER: Sam Vokes |
CHERRIES striker Sam Vokes admits he is relishing the prospect of pitting his wits against England's finest young defenders.
The teenager is set to win his ninth cap for Wales when they host England under-21s in a friendly at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground tonight.
Vokes, a target for several Premiership clubs, is likely to come up against Three Lions captain David Wheater, who starred in the top flight for Middlesbrough last season.
Wheater is expected to forge a central defensive partnership with Ryan Shawcross, while former Cherries loan player Martin Cranie could start at right-back for England.
Vokes, who was born in Southampton and raised in Lymington, has netted four times since bursting on to the international stage 15 months ago.
Speaking to the Daily Echo last night, Vokes said: "It's always good to try to test yourself against the best players and that's what I'll be hoping to do if I'm selected.
"They are among the best in the country at that age so it should be a good contest against them. Everyone will be giving 100 per cent and it should be a good game.
"We met up on Monday and have had a few hard training sessions. It's been hard because it's been so hot but the boys are buzzing for the game."
Vokes, who qualifies for Wales through his grandfather Mike Finch, added: "In some ways it is going to be a bit weird playing against England because that's where I'm from. But I'm a Welsh player so I'll be giving it my all for Wales."
The Sky-televised clash will give Vokes the chance to showcase his talents to the viewing public and also stake his claim for elevation to the full squad.
Vokes has played a key role in helping Wales claim pole position in their European Under-21 Championship qualifying group to leave them within touching distance of advancing to the play-offs, with seven winners earning a place in next year's eight-country finals.
He faces competition for a starting role from Manchester City's Ched Evans, room-mate Simon Church from Reading and Wigan's David Cotterill.
Vokes, who hit 10 goals for Cherries last season, added: "It's great to be involved at international level and it's also hard after a gruelling season.
"I played more games than I'm used to in my first full season with Bournemouth but it's a great feeling to play for Wales against England and I'm not complaining!"

Just as importantly Mr Echo - check out the breaking news at Luton. Their failure to agree a CVA is going to get them a 15 point deduction next season. We are in exactly the same position - if and when new owners "AFCB 2008" buy the club, we will get the same penalty. I have been trying to point this out for months, but have either been dismissed or ignored. The Luton press however appears to have woken up!

Mr Mostyn has always made it clear that no announcement would be made until next week ( and if rumours are true re the other consortium member there is good reason for this) and the FA have made no decision re points to be deducted and indded are reviewing this policy, wisely given its doubtful legality and the strong possibilty of a legal challenge. As for Sam good luck to him, one can only hope that he opts to continue to proceed with his education and development here for a while.[bold]bold[/bold]

Precedent has been set and established legally - there will be no more challenges on this point. If you exit administration without a CVA or similar arrangement with your creditors, you cannot expect the League to transfer their golden share without at the very least a 15 point deduction. In the interest of fairness to other clubs I dont think this is unreasonable - otherwise everyone would be at it!

So the reality is we start next season minus 15 points and third from bottom then, 2 go down so we have a 1 in 3 chance of staying up and looking at the points that send sides down this season if we manage the same points as we did this season we will stay up by 1 point. A number of people think we should be going for promotion next season so if we play that well we should make the play offs then, on the other hand who is going to want to come to a club on the brink and starting with such a handicap, there are a number of issues to work through before we can even start to worry about next season, after all we only get the points deduction after we come out of administration and that does not look likely at present does it?

Sorry Brock and Roll but you are misinformed! Luton have not had 15 points deducted. No decision has yet been made. This story got legs yesterday because the Sporting Life misinterpreted a press statement from the proposed new owners of Luton and the story was picked up by all sorts of other media outlets such as Sky Sports. In typically shoddy fashion not one of the journalists bothered to check the facts. Luton later issued a statement pointing out that the story was completely inaccurate.
It may be that at some point a deduction will be made BUT it is not certain that it will be 15 points. The Arbitration Tribunal were quite explicit that the Football League's exercise of its discretion in relation to Leeds was not intended to set a precedent for other clubs exiting administration without a CVA. The Tribunal emphasised that each case - and specific reference is made to Luton, Rotherham and ourselves - must be treated on its merits. It is up to AFCB to prepare a reasoned case that distinguishes our circumstances from those of Leeds and, come to that, Luton. For instance, if our ratio of wages to turnover has not excceeded the notional ceiling that the FL operates that might be a relevant factor in distinguishing AFCB from Leeds and Luton. Or more prosaically, AFCB has not gone bust 'chasing the dream'!
Where you are correct is that any attempt to challenge the decision that the FL does make in the legitimate exercise of its discretion under the FL rules would be a fruitless exercise.

There may be a 15 point deduction, but the board will have fleeced the taxpayer for near on a million plus taken other companies to the cleaners for millions more. The current deals with catering etc get torn up etc, so the new board stands to make some money. And the fans can help contribute to their cash pot via season tickets, playershare and volenteering to work for the club for nothing. The club could be worth a few million to sell in the next couple of years. Nice little earner for somebody!

I feel that whether we are deducted 15 points or not is the least of our worries, lets just hope we have a club to support, I do not blame any person wishing to purchase the club keeping quiet until its tied up, after reading some of the demented postings on this site, lets just hope itn happens soon

From what I have read today the 15 points deduction is almost a certainty so we are handicapped before we even start next season, it's all very well being positive but we have to get out of administration and accept the deal with the league, next week we may no more about who will own the club but the future is not looking as bright as some would have us believe, I would love to know who these people are that are going to surprise us because all I have seen show things quite differently, please enlighten us or is it more of the same that never comes to fruition.

Assuming we sell 2000 season tickets (as a league two team with uncertain prospects on and off the field) at an average of £220......50% of our supporters are senior citizens.....we will have approx £450,000 of certain income next season. A winning team could expect an average home attendance of 5500-6000.
With average wages of say £700 per week our season ticket sales could just cover 14 professionals wages.
Any additional income from 23 home attendances would be unlikely to cover stadium rent and also management, backroom and administration staff.
sponsorship income is also likely to be down on last season.
Can we trade at a profit? very doubtful.
If we dont get off to a flying start can we trade at a profit. No.
Would you invest your money into a loss making business?
If i was a millionaire with more than enough to keep me comfortable in old age...Yes.Otherwise why would we want the worry?
What we need is an inspired philanthropist.

I feel that whether we are deducted 15 points or not is the least of our worries, lets just hope we have a club to support, I do not blame any person wishing to purchase the club keeping quiet until its tied up, after reading some of the demented postings on this site, lets just hope itn happens soon[/quote] I just hope its all for real and not another one of the lies that sadly we have become used to.
Pretty sure that a real person is involved this time and not one of Jeff imaginary friends so I wouldnt worry to much

What sites-camp sites?
The Echo people are the only people who do a site, or name others-there are no others.
Also people say next week for details?
Who knows!
I feel we know now as much as we did last season which is basically, nothing
