Burley & Bransgore neighbourhood policing team
- Sgt Mark ROBERTS
- I am the Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeant responsible for the Ringwood, Burley and Bransgore area. I have been a Police Officer since 1994 and have worked in a variety of frontline uniform and plain clothes department across Hampshire. In terms of crime levels, the New Forest is still one of the safest places to live and I intend to help keep it that way. I am fortunate to lead a team that is experienced in dealing with crime and neighbourhood issues and who have supported the sector in reducing the number of victims of crime. The continuing challenge is to further reduce the numbers of all crime categories and I will be ensuring that we are focused in supporting that goal by working with our partners, and in our communities. This will include ensuring that we provide a timely response to the community needs with intervention where necessary, along with organising pro-active activities such as speed enforcement, the execution of search warrants and youth diversion. Your local Neighbourhood Team will be focused on achieving this with the support, interaction and assistance from our partner agencies and residents. Different neighbourhoods have different concerns. These may include nuisance drivers, groups engaging in persistent anti-social behaviour or incidents of criminal damage. I would encourage you all to contact us to alert us of your concerns so that we can target our resources effectively. There are many ways to keep in touch with your local Safer Neighbourhood team including meeting us at Beat Surgeries and Street Meets, calling into the Police station, emailing us at ringwood.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk and telephoning us via 101 should you have any non-urgent matters of concern. To report details of criminal activity you can also phone the crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111 Your local officers publish beat reports every two months, reporting on their activities and their progress. These will be published on the Safer Neighbourhoods teams' WebPages or available at your local police station or around at local community centres. You can also sign up to receive these via email by emailing your local team - their email addresses can also be found on their WebPages.
- PC Helen HAINES
- I have been a police officer in Hampshire Constabulary since 2000. I started my career in Shirley, Southampton, in 2000. I joined a busy shift where I had to learn quickly. One of the first lessons I learned was that I had joined the right job for me. I take a great deal of pleasure in trying to help people who have been victimised and by trying to bring about justice for them. I joined the Safer Neighbourhood Team at Ringwood in 2008 as a Beat Officer for the beautifully rural Burley and Bransgore and the surrounding areas. I feel privileged to work in such a picturesque part of Hampshire with some great team mates. I can be seen around Burley and Bransgore (and anywhere in-between!). Please feel free to stop me to report anything suspicious or any crime that has taken place. Failing that, just stop me for a chat! Please keep reporting crime to us. We don't know what we don't know. Thank you!
- PCSO Tracey COOPER
- I have been on the Safer Neighbourhood Team at Ringwood for over five years. I am engaged in community work on all of the Ringwood sector beats. I co-ordinate the Junior PCSO scheme which gets young people from local schools and youth groups involved and gives them an insight into our role. I am also a LAGLO (Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officer) which involves working closely with the LGBT (Lesbian Gay, Bi-Sexual and Trans-gendered) communities in the Forest and dealing with hate crime and any other issues. I also deliver anti-bullying presentations into schools, along with Graffiti and Vandalism education.
- PCSO Sam KNIGHT
- I have been a PCSO for the last 5 years based at Ringwood Police Station. As a part of my role I will conduct high visibility patrols in your neighbourhood on foot or cycle and an active virtual presence online where appropriate (Crimereports) taking all opportunities to increase public confidence and reassurance. Whilst conducting these patrols I will look to gather community intelligence in order to help solve community issues and crimes. This is also an opportunity to source local concerns identifying community priorities and hotspots. Whilst on patrol I will often utilise current legislation and good practice to tackle crime and ASB, using powers as appropriate to deter instances of nuisance or anti-social behaviour such as confiscation of alcohol from young persons. I will work alongside statutory and collaborative partner agencies including voluntary organisation's to develop these relationships and explore new opportunities toward reducing crime and disorder (ASB) making referrals to agencies and force departments to reduce risk and harm to others. In particular we work along side the local schools to provide advice, reassurance and often participate in delivering presentation's. Whilst making the most of these opportunities to engage and gather relevant information.
About this neighbourhood
Burley is an interesting village with a history of Witchcraft, still evident in some of the tourist shops located on the villages main road. The village has a mix of old and new properties, shops, cafes and tearooms. Castle Hill, at Burley Street, just on the outskirts of Burley is an example of an Iron Age Hill Fort. Some of the ramparts of the castle that was there are still visible. It is also a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI) housing old woodland and many protected species (e.g bats). Bransgore is a village which can be found on the Hampshire/Dorset border. It is located on the edge of the New Forest. The village has an interesting mix of newer premises and 19th century manor houses and cottages. There is a popular primary school in the village and several public houses, namely The Crown, the Three Tuns and The Carpenters Arms. On the outskirts of the village lies Thorney Hill. In the past, Thorney Hill was a traveller encampment with travellers living in the open.
The force responsible for policing and crime prevention in this area is Hampshire Constabulary.
