TAKING something as fundamental to life itself as water and using it as the focus of a dance work is an inspired move.

In the hands of Motionhouse it is a jaw-dropping, eye-popping work of creation that with movement, sound and sheer theatrical spectacle comes close to an hallucinogenic experience.

Scattered explores the magnificent in the mundane and the bigger picture too.

On a planet that is 70 per cent water there’s a lot of H20 to play with. Director and choreographer Kevin Finnan, a former builder who just happens to have co-founded one the best contemporary dance company’s around, has created a mesmerising combination of physical dance and film that thrills the senses and tricks the eye.

Simon Dorman’s extraordinary curved set offers a near vertical floor for some truly stunning aerial work enhanced by Sophy Smith’s original music score.

Meanwhile seven brilliant dancers interact with-ever changing imagery, exploring ice, rain, waterfalls, oceans and much more. Everything in fact including the kitchen sink.

But then as Finnan says: "Choreography for me is making worlds. Playing with reality is how we understand our lives.”

He’s right. This production’s seemingly surreal message makes huge, huge sense.
