PETER Duncan, the former Blue Peter and Duncan Dares presenter, returns to the Lighthouse stage next week to lead the autumn tour of Million Dollar Quartet from Tuesday to Saturday.

The Tony award-winning Broadway musical and West End smash hit, tells the story of the 1956 recording session that brought together four recording stars, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, for the first and only time in a show that features more than 20 rock’n’roll hits such as Blue Suede Shoes, I Walk The Line and Great Balls.

Duncan who plays the role of legendary record producer Sam Phillips, said it’s a role he particularly enjoys playing:

“Although it’s a jukebox musical, in that it’s a story that’s weaved into characters and songs, it’s about a day that really happened. What you learn through the character I play, was that this was the start of rock and roll. It really shocked American society at the time - its explicit sexuality, the expression of youth.

“I found the story fascinating, because you’re not just going to hear songs you know like Hound Dog - you’re also going to discover what the song is about, where it originated from.” The Lighthouse, is rapidly becoming Duncan’s second home as he returns the following week for this year’s pantomime, Cinderella which he has written, co-produced and directed.

“When you are producing or directing you have to be very good at multitasking, but when you are acting you just have to focus on being as entertaining as you can so in some ways it is a much more simple task!”
