THE Regent Centre will finally reopen this weekend – but some of the seats in the auditorium will remain off limits.
The centre was originally due to be closed last week while refurbishment work was carried out in the bar area.
However, while this work was carried out council engineers discovered a structural issue on the exterior of the south side of the building.
At the time Christchurch council extended the closure for another week while a structural report was completed.
Christchurch Council has now received the structural report and has agreed to reopen the centre.
However the circle seating in the auditorium will remain closed, which is around one third of the seating available, while further investigation work takes place.
Unfortunately this will leave some André Rieu disappointed as the circle seating for the two live screenings of his Maastricht concerts this weekend will need to be cancelled.
