AN INTERACTIVE summer festival that celebrates dance in everyday places will leap into action this weekend.
Discover, Play, Dream: Dance! is a Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) project, supported by Arts Council England and Arts University Bournemouth.
Now in its second year, festival organisers promise “spectacular dance performances and activities that celebrate dance in everyday places, for everyone to experience and enjoy” – with most events free to attend.
There will be various opportunities for people to get involved, kicking off this Saturday with a show by Casson and Friends called The Dance WE Made.
Shoppers at Castlepoint in Bournemouth will be invited to take on the role of a choreographer (no experience required!) and direct a team of professional dancers.
Other highlights of the festival include the Urban Carnival Roadshow on the Pavilion Dance terraces the following weekend on Saturday, July 8.
And taking place on Bournemouth beach at the bottom of the Toft ZigZag, Simon Birch Dance presents Shoreline with a capella soundtrack by a large community choir.
The festival culminates on Sunday, July 9 with performances on the Pavilion Dance West Terrace. Gandini Juggling will host a tea party like no other in Smashed with 80 apples, nine performers, four crockery sets and a soundtrack of popular songs from Tammy Wynette to Music Hall and Bach.
Throughout the summer there will be free outdoor dance classes on the Pavilion Dance West terrace in a variety of styles every Friday and Saturday evening from July 28 to August. 26. See pdsw.org.uk
